Analysis of Pollutant Load Carrying Capacity of the River Tapi Using QUAL2Kw for Surat City

River Tapi is the prime water body for Surat city, Gujarat, India. On a long stretch of 22.39 km in city (Kamrej to Causeway) river, there are many identified and non-identified discharge points available. Excessive from these restricts efficiency self-purification process which ultimately degrades river quality. In this paper, an attempt has been made estimate pollutant load-carrying capacity at different segments using QUAL2Kw tool. The study undertaken with scenarios: First, model was trained available quality hydraulic data complete segment divided into 21 reaches. calibrated validated actual concentrations pollutants entering. second phase, all point source, non-point headwater characteristics were considered terms BOD, ISS, N-nitrate found. third sources entering have removed only study. results indicate that reach no. (21.23ºN, 72.82ºE) maximum Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) up 2057.7 kg/day, Inorganic Suspended Solids (ISS) 85633.8 Nitrate (NO3) 31688.8 kg/day.
